AgCold is one of the largest providers of refrigerated cold storage in the Mid-Atlantic region, with a total footprint of over 327,000 square feet. Our refrigerated warehouses are built to handle a target load of roughly 70 million pounds of perishable products such as shelled and unshelled nuts, peanut paste, peanut butter, peanut oil, produce, seafood, and pharmaceuticals.
OUT HISTORY: The Beginning
Established in 1996
Our roots can be traced back to the mid-1990s when Josh “Pret” Pretlow and Tom “Buzz” Hofler started Virginia Cold Storage. These two natives of Suffolk, Virginia, a town steeped in the history of peanut production and processing for over a century, recognized the area’s importance as a shipping hub to the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond.
The merge
Combined Forces in 2021
AgCold recognized the opportunity to continue the legacy of Virginia Cold Storage with the full acquisition of and merger with Nansemond Cold Storage. The purchase allowed AgCold to combine resources and continue providing national and international customers with the high quality cold storage and logistics services they had come to depend on.

In January 2023, we integrated a fully cloud-based warehouse management system with real-time inventory tracking, order scheduling, reduced pick times, on-demand reporting with 24/7 anywhere accessibility, and outbound scanning for mistake-proof shipping.
